Shaherzad Ahmadi is Assistant Professor of History at St. Thomas University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her dissertation was about the borderlands of modern Iran and Iraq, and focused on the socioeconomic independence of border dwellers and the long-term social and political consequences of porous borders in the region. She has also written on commemoration of the Iran/Iraq War (1980-1988). In addition to modern Middle Eastern history, she also teaches on topics as non-state actors in the Middle East and North Africa, and the history of the Shi‘i-Sunni split and its modern consequences.
