Beeta Baghoolizadeh (“ba-gu-lee/za-deh”) is Assistant Professor of History and Africana Studies at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. She received her PhD in History at the University of Pennsylvania, and holds a master’s in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Her dissertation explores constructions of race and citizenship in Iran during the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Using primary sources from formal and family archives, her research traces the conceptualizations of whiteness and blackness as departure points for understanding the legacy of slavery in Iran.
